Schlitz News:
March 2008 - The boys have finished two recording sessions at the Western Sound Studios located in the Dalton Center at Western Michigan University. The studio has recently made significant equipment upgrades and is considered to be on the cutting edge of sound recording technology. The band's first record is coming soon.

June 2007 - After several minutes of negotiating, a deal was reached on the purchase of the band's first touring vehicle. $400 is a large investment for the boys, but having reliable transportation will enable the band to begin playing beyond the county line (with our parole officer's permission, of course). Look for the SchlitzMobile, a 24-foot 1973 Georgie Boy motorhome with a Ford 390 engine, at upcoming Schlitz Creek shows.

Welcome to Schlitz Creek, where there's always pickin' on the back porch. From the mountains of Kalamazoo, the Schlitz Creek Bluegrass Band brings you bluegrass music as it should be sung and played. They cannot be classified as strictly traditional or progressive, or entirely good or bad, as they are armed with a polished repertoire of standard bluegrass tunes as well as a collection of refreshing and unusual choices for a bluegrass band. The boys pull material from such legends as the Dillards, the Monkees, Bob Seger, Lennon & McCartney, Kenny Rogers, Bill Monroe, and Merle Haggard. Their high energy stage show has quickly made Schlitz Creek a crowd favorite on the local bluegrass festival circuit. The Schlitz boys also perform several old country standards, popular instrumentals and frequently accommodate audience requests during the shows.

Combining a high energy approach with lots of good old, down home humor, the “boys in bibs” are favorites in taverns and watering holes alike throughout Southwest Michigan. The band has appeared in venues ranging from backyard parties to large festivals, and bring professional experience to every performance.

Band members include: Nick Deaton on banjo, Dave Dekema on lead guitar, John Speeter on mandolin and Nick Griffith on bass.

Now accepting advance bookings for weddings, wakes, confirmations, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, goat ropings, snake rollings, ashtray emptyings, marbles tournaments, and bluegrass festerings.

Schlitz Creek: “Bluegrass with some bite”.
